DETROIT (WKZO) -- A statue to RoboCop, planned to be unveiled in Detroit next summer, is in the final phase of production.
Venus Bronze Works showcased the ten-foot-tall replica of the futuristic crime-fighting cyborg on Tuesday. It will be the final time it will be shown before being officially unveiled next summer.
The original idea evolved from a tweet to Mayor Dave Bing in February 2011, asking if a likeness of RoboCop would draw attention to the city. Although the mayor shot down the idea, it took off on social media and a group was able to raise 60-thousand dollars to fund the project.
The statue is a replica model of actor Peter Weller’s costume featured in the 1987 cult-classic movie.
