KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo observed 9/11 with a memorial for those who died in New York and Washington and Shanksville 12 years ago this week, and a salute to the first responders who serve our community every day.
The event was filled with ceremony, music and rousing speeches. This year the Keynote was given by WMU President John Dunn, who says such ceremonies play an important role in the healing process.
Dr. Dunn says they keep alive the memory of all we have lost.
Dunn says on 9/11 he was an administrator at a college in Utah and it was his duty that day to inform a student that there was bad news about one of her relatives who worked at the World Trade Center. A day he will never forget.
