KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The shooting death of State Trooper Paul Butterfield is another reminder why we commemorate 9/11
. It’s not only to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks, but to remember all the police and firefighters who lost their lives that day, and everyday put their lives at risk.
Lorence Wenke organized this evening’s memorial service in Bronson Park. He says WMU President John Dunn will keynote the 6 p.m. event.
Portage City Council member Claudette Reid says some of the proceeds from last weekend’s Kazoo Area Foot Chase have been redirected, because of the death of Trooper Butterfield. His family will receive some of the proceeds from the event, which is a fundraiser for the families of officers slain on duty.
They will be reenacting the 110-story climb that emergency responders had to make at the Twin Towers 12-years ago, this morning at Wings Stadium.
