KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Uninsured women in Southwest Michigan will be offered a chance to get free mammograms next month as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's all part of an initiative known as Pink Saturdays, when hospitals all around the Kalamazoo area will take part in the free screenings for the seventh year. Appointments can be made now by calling 1-800-873-0649, and there are 15 hundred slots available on a first come, first serve basis. To qualify for a free mammogram, a woman must between the ages of 40 and 64, have an income below 50 thousand dollars, and live in Allegan, Barry, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Branch, Cass, Saint Joseph, or Van Buren County. Since the Pink Ribbon Saturday program began, the West Michigan Cancer Center has helped over 77 hundred women get free breast cancer screenings.
