The Tigers offense was halted on Sunday afternoon as they dropped the series finale 5-2 to the Kansas City Royals. Detroit managed just six hits in the game as they drop the series to the Royals.
The Tigers got on the board first when Jose Iglesias hit a two run home run in the third inning. It is his second home run since joining the Tigers. The Royals came back in the fourth inning to get on the board when they strung three singles together with Billy Butler bringing home the lone run with a base hit. The Royals would take the lead in the next inning when Eric Hosmer hit a three run home run to centerfield to give Kansas City a 4-2 lead. The Royals added one more run on an Alex Gordon single in the seventh inning.
All five runs were charged to the starter Doug Fister. He allowed those five runs on eight hits while pitching into the seventh inning. The Tigers never could figure out Kansas City starter Bruce Chen who allowed only two runs on five hits in seven innings. No one Tiger managed more than one hit in the game.
They now head to Chicago for a three game series with the White Sox. Game one is Monday night at 8:10. It will feature a fantastic pitching match-up as Max Scherzer will be opposed by lefthander Chris Sale.
