LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Honoring Vietnam War veterans is on the agenda in the Michigan Senate. Republican state Senator Judy Emmons from Sheridan says the bill would allow those veterans to acquire their high school diplomas. Emmons says veterans would apply, preferably to the school district that had attended before they were drafted and be awarded the diploma with such a program following in the footsteps of what was done for World War Two and Korean War Veterans.
Emmons says the Vietnam War vets would not have to actually return to classes because their experiences served as education enough. She says she doesn't see there being any opposition to the bill that seeks to show gratitude toward those who served.
