Governor Snyder leads 50,000 in annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

MACKINAC CITY, MI (WTVB) - Labor Day events were held all over the Michigan yesterday, headlined by the annual Bridge Walk over the Mackinac Bridge.  Crowd estimates ranged as high as 50,000 people participating this year. Governor Snyder led the way making it across in 57 minutes. They also had a bridge walk in Grand Rapids that takes walkers across  the  bridges over the Grand River.  They also had Laborfest near the Ford Presidential Museum. And labor leaders in Detroit participated in a parade, and urged supporters to elect more Democrats so they can get rid of the Right to Work law.

Governor Snyder is taking off on a much longer trip today, heading to Asia for a ten-day trade mission to see if he can bring some jobs and tourists back to the state.  He will make stops in China and Japan, seeking to build on relationships forged in two previous trips.  The governor and his delegation will arrive in Shanghai on Thursday and he will give a welcome speech at the Pure Michigan Tourism Forum.  China is the world’s largest source of outbound tourism, spending $102-billion last year, and he would like to steer some of those tourists back here.
