Fister, Tigers shutout Red Sox 3-0

Boston, MA (WKZO) – A day after being shutout by the Cleveland Indians, the Tigers responded with a 3-0 shutout of their own, this time over the Boston Red Sox in the first game of a three game series at Fenway Park.

Doug Fister was terrific in seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while walking four and striking out four. With the win Fister improves his record to 12-8.

Andy Dirks broke the scoreless tie with a triple in the sixth inning, driving in Victor Martinez. Dirks then scored two batters later despite Don Kelly grounding into a double play.

Prince Fielder hit a sac fly in the seventh for the Tigers third run.

Jose Veras gave up a double to Daniel Nava in the ninth but set down the final three Red Sox he faced to pick up his first save as a Tiger.

The Tigers and Red Sox resume their series on Tuesday. Coverage beings at 6:45 on 590 WKZO and first pitch is scheduled for 7:10. Max Scherzer takes the mound in search of win #20. John Lester will oppose him for the Red Sox
