KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo’s Noise Task Force says it has listened to a lot of people, compiled a lot of information, but it will be up to the Commission to set decibel levels and time restrictions because they didn’t have access to the experts on sound they needed to do it.
Committee Chair Grant Fletcher says their first recommendation: for the commission to hire a sound engineer to advise them on regulating noise.
Festival Organizer Deb Droppers says it’s been a long struggle. The goal is to find a way to keep young adults in town.
They just have to do it in a way that everyone benefits.
The Task force recommends the commission create a uniform permit for downtown events, require lower decibel levels in early morning hours, and create protocols for making noise complaints and verifying compliance.
That requires being able to accurately measure sound.
Commissioners will receive their recommendations on November 18th.
