BLOOMINGDALE TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- It wasn’t easy, but two wanted fugitives are back in custody after a foot chase behind a home in Bloomingdale Township. Van Buren County Deputies got a tip that the two were hiding out at a house in the 36-thousand block of 6th Avenue.
As deputies pulled up, they saw the two suspects run out the back door and into a field. They were chased down and arrested.
26-year-old Matthew Durian of Gobles was being sought for failing to appear for sentencing on a weapons charge. They added a marijuana count and resisting arrest, because he put up a struggle after they tackled him.
24-year-old Jason Smith, also of Gobles, was wanted on two criminal bench warrants for failing to appear for traffic violations.
They added a meth possession charge and will seek an additional count of using a scanner in the commission of a crime. When they ran him down, deputies say they could hear their own radio traffic coming from his phone, because he had a scanner app.
