LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Michigan Senate has finally given the green light for Michigan School Districts to use the Common Core curriculum, and more importantly, it has freed up funding to implement the higher standards. School districts have been incorporating the Common Core ever since it was approved by the State Board of Education three years ago. A group of conservative legislators discovered it this year and demanded a review of allegations that it was a federal intrusion that robbed districts of local control. It’s not actually a federal program. It was devised by the National Association of Governors and a group of educators.
