KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It took 6 months for test results to be completed on the body of a 14-month old baby girl from Kalamazoo County, and they not only found signs of abuse but that the infant had alcohol and marijuana in her system.
Now 21-year-old Toren Hains, who was babysitting for his girlfriend at her Oshtemo Apartment when he called for the ambulance, has been charged with her death.
The lab results found the infant had brain and eye hemorrhages suggesting abuse, a blood alcohol count of .087 and marijuana in her blood stream. Little Zoie Grace Johnson was rushed to the hospital on December 30th and pronounced dead the next day.
It took until June to get the lab results back and until earlier this month to complete the investigation.
Hains is being held in the Kalamazoo County jail without bond charged for open murder, felony murder and first degree child abuse.
