KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Western Michigan University has been named as one of the best in the nation for having a diverse student population by ”INSIGHT into Diversity” magazine.
The designation comes on a week when the diversity issue on Michigan college campuses went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
WMU’s Cheryl Rolland says despite Michigan’s ban on racial preference, they have a student body that is about one-fifth minority.
She says it isn’t easy, but they work at it. A lot of their students come from Eastern Michigan. They also get a few hundred every year from Kalamazoo Public Schools because of the Promise.
Davenport University and Michigan Tech also made the top 55 in the list compiled by ”INSIGHT into Diversity” magazine.
