Legislation would let identity theft victims freeze their credit information

Lansing
Lansing

LANSING (WKZO) -- The State Senate has passed a bill sponsored by John Proos that would allow residents who have become victims of identity theft to place a security freeze on their credit information. Proos says this plan would let a person effectively make it impossible for a new credit card to be opened in their name until the identity theft has been straightened out. The legislation from Proos would also allow individuals to use a secure pin number to lift a freeze on their account through the credit reporting bureaus in order to open a new account. The plan now goes on to the State House.
