KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety's effort to work with members of the community to literally clean up the streets is seeing results.
This last Tuesday, Public Safety got together with the Eastside Neighborhood Association, the city's Public Services Department, and Community Planning & Development to focus on "quality of life" issues in the areas around Kalamazoo. They worked together to address housing violations, junked automobiles, trash in the streets, cleaning graffiti, and trimming overgrown trees along roadways and sidewalks to improve lighting.
The effort is part of Kalamazoo Public Safety's Community Outreach & Problem Solving Division, with the idea being that addressing the smaller things will improve life in the community on a greater level. In total, with help from Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program workers, they collected over 60 bags of trash from the Eastside and Knollwood neighborhoods, as well as in several parks around the city.
