KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Red Cross is helping out the victims of a Monday morning apartment fire in Kalamazoo. One person was killed in the blaze at the Village Apartments on Lilac Lane, which is east off Drake Road on West Michigan, south of KL Avenue.
In addition to the one fatality, one man was severely burned, and dozens were left with no place to go. Kelly Hudson, with the Red Cross, says 12 volunteers were at the scene shortly after the fire was reported around one AM. She says McDonald's and Sweetwater Donuts provided food to over 40 people affected by the fire. Also, a shelter is being set up for displaced victims at Calvary Baptist Church on South Drake.
Anyone who wants to contribute to the fire victims can make an item donation at the Kalamazoo Deacon's Conference. You can also visit www.RedCross.org, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
