SAUGATUCK (WKZO) -- Starting next week, they'll be shooting an independent film in Saugatuck called Saugatuck Cures. Screenwriter Jay Deratany says that the film is about the community coming together.
Deratany tells us that he's always admired thecolutural diversity in the town, where there are so many churches, yet a strong gay community. That plays into how the plot develops in the movie.
The actual story is about a widowed bed and breakfast owner who's dealing with cancer and gets help from her gay son. Saugatuck Cures is being directed by Danny Drew Mooney, who recently helmed a film starring Liam Hemsworth. It should come out some time next year.
