NEWAYGO (WKZO) -- They searched the woods and swamps around the home of a 2-1/2 year old Newaygo county girl all night, bringing in fresh search crews, trying to find little Amber Rose Smith before the falling temperatures took their toll on the toddler.
Her dad says she was watching TV the last time he saw her at about 2 PM yesterday afternoon. Her mom was distraught, fearing she might not be found alive.
They live next to the Manistee National Forest, at 978-thousand acres, law enforcers say that’s a big area to search.
The girl has wandered away before, but always turned up.
An Amber Alert was issued late last night when it was determined that the weather posed a risk.
