DETROIT (WKZO)- The Detroit Tigers fell behind early 3-0 to the Oakland A's, but they were able to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Victor Martinez double bringing home Torii Hunter and a Jhonny Peralta single that brought home Prince Fielder and Martinez.
It looked like the Tigers bats were finally coming alive and they were going to take control of this game. The A's had other ideas in mind though. Brandon Moss hit a solo home run off of Anibal Sanchez in the top of the fifth to give the A's a 4-3 lead. They weren't done yet as Yoenis Cespedes hit a single and then Seth Smith hit a two run home run to give the A's a 6-3 lead.
The Tigers really never threatened again in the game. The only other exciting thing that happened was Martinez got in a shouting match with A's closer Grant Balfour which caused the bullpens and benches to clear. No one was ejected for the incident.
Anibal Sanchez, who had the lowest ERA in the American League during the regular season, gave up six runs, five of them earned, on eight hits while walking two and striking out six. Jarrod Parker gets the win for the A's and Balfour gets the save.
The Tigers have now scored in only two of the 27 innings in this series.
They now trail their ALDS series 2-1 with Oakland and look to avoid elimination tomorrow. Doug Fister will look to keep the Tigers season going tomorrow while Dan Straily looks to help andvance the A's to the ALCS. Broadcast time tomorrow is at 4:40 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
