LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan parents are being encouraged to get their kids to start walking to school more. Meg Thomas Ackerman, with the Michigan Fitness Foundation's Safe Routes to School program, says that a generation ago, the majority of children walked to school, and now it's the other way around.
Ackerman adds that says parents should take a proactive role on this matter, going with their younger ones. She tells us that Safe Routes to School is, after all, about safety.
National Walk to School Day will be on Wednesday of this week. That's when people across the country will be spreading the message about the physical benefits of walking to school. You can find out more at www.WalkBikeToSchool.org .
