IOWA CITY (WKZO)- Michigan State had a big test today in Iowa City taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes.  The Spartans passed with flying colors and may have finally started to get their offense rolling as they beat the Hawkeyes 26-14.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans struck first kicking a 27-yard field goal off the foot of Michael Geiger to give them a 3-0 lead.  Later in the second quarter Connor Cook hit Macgarrett Kings for a 46-yard Touchdown pass as the Spartans extended their lead to 10-0.

Iowa came back with a couple of touchdown passes from Jake Rudock of 10 and 47 yards to give the Hawkeyes a 14-10 halftime lead.

The Spartans defense stood tall in the second half as they kept the Hawkeyes off the board.  Cook connected with Bennie Fowler for a 37-yard touchdown pass to put the Spartans up for good 17-14.

Geiger added three more field goals for the Spartans from 35, 49, and 40 yards.

Cook was 25-44 throwing for 277 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.

Michigan State had 412 total yards on offense today and outrushed the Hawkeyes 135-23.

Darqueze Dennard had two interceptions on the day for Michigan State.

The Spartans improve to 4-1 (1-0 Big Ten) and look to get another win next Saturday against Indiana 3-2 (1-0 Big Ten).  Broadcast time is 11 am next Saturday on AM 590 WKZO.
