KALAMAZOO (WKZO) – In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness in the month of October, the Southwest Michigan affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is teaming up with Smashburger in Kalamazoo to raise money for continued research and education initiatives.
Smashburger, 4315 West Main in Kalamazoo, debuted the exclusive Raspberry Sorbet Haagen-Dazs shake Saturday to support the important work of the Susan G. Komen Foundation both locally and nationally. 40 cents of every shake sold in October will go directly to the efforts of the foundation with a commitment of $25,000 donation nationwide.
“This year alone, there will be close to 300,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer, and nearly 40,000 deaths,” President of the SW Michigan Komen Board Kristin Sauerhoff said.
Sauerhoff emphasized the importance of year round community involvement and education. The Southwest affiliate holds several fundraisers throughout the year, including the “Race for the Cure” in May. Additional donations can be made at www.komen.org/smashbuger.
