KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The new Kalamazoo city manager could be in place in a little over a month. The city commission this week settled on Battle Creek Assistant City Manager Jim Ritsema as its new choice, and Mayor Bobby Hopewell says he's narrowing a timetable for getting him on board.
Hopewell tells us that Ritsema gave a month's notice to the city of Battle Creek, and he could be in place around the second week of November.
Hopewell says that Ritsema was picked because demonstrated that he has the chops to understand the issues facing Kalamazoo. He could be sworn in at the same meeting where the new city commission will be sworn in after next month's elections.
