Part-time Michigan legislature proposed

LANSING (WKZO) -- An effort to make being a state lawmaker a part-time job is gaining momentum in Lansing.

MIRS News reports former state lawmaker and current Republican National Committeeman from Michigan Dave Agema is backing an effort by the Committee to Restore Michigan's Part-Time Legislature to do just what the group's name implies.  They would like to amend the state's constitution to give lawmakers a set 60 day period to complete their work every year from January through March, and activists would like to see the proposal on voting ballots in 2014.

Lawmakers would get to work on the second Wednesday in January with no bills allowed to pass in the first 20 days, and after that no bill would pass without a three-fifths majority in both chambers.  An additional 30 day special session could be called by the Governor after that.
