GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- While about half of Americans chose to sit out Black Friday retails madness, those who do files into stores mean a great deal to those businesses. Doctor Brian Long, a grand Valley State University economist, says that just a small jump in sales that stores would have gotten otherwise can mean the difference between winding up in the red or black.
Plus, Long tells us that a shopping holiday for Americans is a great idea that brings families togethe. For proof, he says one only need to look at all the mother daughter pairing to be found in stores on Black Friday.
Doctor Long says that you probably aren't really saving all that much on the whole by hitting the malls on Black Friday, but that doesn't stop millions of Americans from doing so.
