KALAMAZOO/PORTAGE (WKZO) -- The polls have closed and the tallying is over in Kalamazoo and Portage. And it looks like given the choice, experience counted with area voters.

All the incumbents were reelected in Kalamazoo and Portage In the Kalamazoo City commission race, the six incumbents are back

Bobby Hopewell will return as Mayor, and David Anderson will be Vice Mayor. Don Cooney, Barb Miller, Stephanie Moore and Bob Cinabro all will return for two year terms. Former County Commissioner Jack Urban is the lucky winner of the number 7 slot, to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Hannah McKinney.

It was a good night for incumbents in Portage too. Current council Members Terry Urban and Claudette Reid will get another four years and former Council Member and County Commissioner Nasim Ansari will fill the third available seat.

In Parchment, all four candidates were unopposed.

The other obvious feature from today’s voting was the low turnout. Less than 12% of the registered voters in the two cities bothered to go to the polls.
