COMSTOCK (WKZO) -- General Mills is planning on opening a new facility in Comstock's Midlink Business Park, with the leased distribution center intended to focus primarily on the cereal-maker's yogurt business. Developers are expected to break ground this week on a 155,000-square-foot facility with plans for the site to be fully operational by July 2014.
Comstock Township is supporting the project with a ten-year real and personal property tax abatement said to be valued at just over 1.5-million dollars. Kalamazoo County is chipping in another estimated 1.5-million in incentives, and the state of Michigan is providing a state education tax abatement of 371-thousand dollars.
The Minneapolis-based company also chose the location in part due to its geographical location in their distribution plans.
