KALAMAZOO (WKZO) --, A trooper from the Michigan State Police located Stephen Lenich walking in the 3800 block of Sprinkle Rd. at approximately 9:12 p.m.
TV-3 is reporting that he is the same Stephen Samuel Lenich who pled guilty but mentally ill to the brutal murder of his 80-year-old Grandfather with a roofing hammer when he was a teenager. He was also charged with seriously injuring his grandmother at their home in St. Clair Shores in July of 2,000.
Lenich told officials at the time that he had received telepathic signals from his grandmother ordering him to kill them.
He was diagnosed as a Schizophrenic and has been under treatment ever since.
Lenich was taken back into protective custody without incident Sunday night.
KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety needs your help to locate a mental patient who walked away from a treatment home early Sunday and left his meds behind and could begin exhibiting unpredictable behavior without it.
32-year-old Stephen Lenich is white about 5-11, 240 lbs and was last seen wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans, under a grey jacket.
Sometimes he wears glasses and may have them in his possession.
