Pittsburgh, PA (WKZO) – The Pirates scored four runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit to beat the Tigers 5-3 on Wednesday night.
Pedro Alvarez's two run double tied the game at three and Travis Snyder drove in Alvarez to take the lead 4-3. Jordy Mercer’s suicide squeeze scored the Pirates fifth and final run against Anibal Sanchez (5-5) who went 6 2/3 striking out nine and giving up nine hits and a walk.
Miguel Cabrera hit his 15th homer of the season for Detroit to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead after Andy Dirks had an RBI double for the Tigers first run.
Bryan Morris (2-2) picked up the win in relief of A.J. Burnett. Burnett went six innings, allowing just three wins while picking up his 10th consecutive quality start. Jason Grilli pitched the ninth for his major league-leading 22nd save.
