LANSING, MI (WTVB) - There could be a flurry of budget approvals today in Lansing as the Republican leadership tries to clear their agenda. They want to head north to the annual Mackinac Island Conference sponsored by the Detroit Chamber of Commerce. One departmental budget after another is scheduled to be voted on this morning in the senate, and the Omnibus and so-called “School Bus” bills are up for back-to-back votes in the House Appropriations committee.Representative. Ed McBroom says the June 1st Deadline is important because it gives schools a month to prepare their budgets, which are due July 1st.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush are on the agenda Wednesday at the Mackinac Conference and most of the legislative leadership apparently intends to be there, after foregoing the conference last year to meet the June 1st deadline for budget approval.
Bush, who coauthored a book on Immigration reform, will also be attending a book signing in Grand Rapids Tuesday.
