Detroit, MI (1660 The Fan) – Jakub Kindl scored the game winning goal for the Red Wings and Jimmy Howard recorded his second career playoff shutout as the Red Wings are now just one win away from heading to the Western Conference finals after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Kindl found the back of the net halfway through the second period with just one second left on the power play for his first goal of the postseason. Carlo Colaiacovo and Johan Franzen recorded assists on Kindl’s goal, the first power play goal the Blackhawks had allowed against during the playoffs. The President Cup winners had successfully killed all 30 short handed situations in the postseason prior to Kindl’s goal.
Daniel Cleary added an empty netter with 39 seconds left. Valtteri Filppula added an assist on Cleary’s goal. The Wings finished with 27 shots.
In net Howard was phenomenal once again stopping all 28 shots the Blackhawks attempted and has is sporting a 97.6 save percentage in the Wings three wins this series.
