Michigan Department of Treasury reviewing Pontiac Schools finances

LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Department of Treasury is reviewing a final report on whether a financial review team is needed for the Pontiac School District.  On Monday, state Superintendent Mike Flanagan sent the department his final report on the Oakland County school district.

Currently, Pontiac schools are struggling with a deficit of over 37-million dollars.  The district is pledging to make massive reductions in staff and use money from an insurance settlement and future real estate sales to balance the books, however Flanagan says he is concerned because the money is not in hand.

The state Department of Education withheld the district's aid payments for March and April because it failed to make sufficient progress with the elimination of its deficit.
