KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It seems like the Kalamazoo City Commission has had one brew pub application after another on their agenda for the last few months.
Tonight there is a request for Commissioners to approve Rupert’s Brew-House. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission will have final say on the license.
Mark Rupert and Nirmal Shah plan to build a small brewery in a building at 773 W. Michigan that has housed a number neighborhood and campus friendly businesses.
Originally built as the Oakland Pharmacy, at West Michigan and Academy, it became Boogie Records for a couple of decades and was most recently a coffee and brew house called “The Strutt”.
It will be the owner’s first such venture. They plan to build a brewery operation that could make up to 30-thousand barrels a year, but plan to start with just 800 barrels to see how it goes.
