Chicago, IL (1660 The Fan) – Jimmy Howard made 19 saves and Brendan Smith scored the game winner in the second as the Red Wings tied their best of seven series with the Chicago Blackhawks at a game apiece with a 4-1 beating on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Wings offense scored four unanswered goals after Patrick Kane scored the Blackhawks lone goal with 5:55 left in the first period.
Damian Brunner tallied his second goal of the series and fourth of the playoffs 2:40 into the second tying the game at one. Smith put the Wings in the lead putting the puck passed Corey Crawford with under four minutes left in the second. Crawford made 26 saves.
Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula added goals for the Wings in the third period.
Wings outshot the Blackhawks 30-20 after getting outshot 42-21 in Game 1.
