Kalamazoo, MI (WKZO) – In front of a crowd of around 200 people, Michigan State University head basketball coach Tom Izzo spoke about the importance of mentoring our youth as the keynote speaker for The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo’s “Inspiring Youth to Dream” fundraiser to benefit the Community Center Youth Mentoring and Recreation Programs.
Before speaking to the crowd at Kalamazoo Valley Family Church, Izzo spoke with members of the media about the importance of the event to the community, young people and to himself. However, it was only a matter of time before the talks turned to basketball.
Izzo will be entering his 18th year as the head coach of the Spartans Men’s Basketball Team, a season in which many believe that Izzo will have one of his most talented teams ever with the return of Keith Appling, Gary Harris and Adreian Payne. Izzo also touched on the renewed rivalry with Michigan, possible nonconference opponents for the 2013-2014 season, and a rule he’d like to see changed.
