GOBLES (WKZO) -- A Gobles man has been arrested after allegedly plowing his vehicle into a church.
Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies were called to a crash at Depot and Cottage Street in Gobles around 5 a.m. Friday. A nearby resident reported being woken up to the sound of a pickup truck smashing into the Journey Family Church.
On arrival, deputies found a 2000 Chevy Silverado that had crashed into the church, causing significant damage to the building, but no one was in the vehicle. After checking the vehicle's registration, officers began searching the area, eventually tracking down a 35-year-old Gobles man at his residence in the southern part of the city.
The man denied driving the vehicle, but it was clear to officers the man was intoxicated. Herefused to cooperate with investigators and he was arrested for drunken driving and failing to stop and identify at the scene of a crash.
