LANSING (WKZO) -- A State House committee has approved legislation that would change the laws regarding drinking and boating. State Representative Matt Lori says he's been working on this for years. The plan would make the legal limit .08 for boats, personal watercraft, and off road vehicles. Right now, the limit is .10.
Lori's bills stem from a 2005 incident on Cass County's Donnell Lake in which a seven year old was killed when he was hit by a personal watercraft being operated by someone with a BAC that would have been too high to drive a car, but not too high for boating.
The legislation has cleared the House Criminal Justice Committee, and now goes on to the full chamber.
