Proposed law would let communities waive property taxes for disabled vets

LANSING (WKZO) -- A plan recently introduced in the Michigan legislature would make it possible for disabled veterans to get a new tax break. State Senator Glenn Anderson, a Westland Democrat, says that his bill would let communities decide if they want to waive the property taxes of veterans with a 100 percent disability.

He says the law would be opt-in, meaning that local communities would decide for themselves whether to allow vets to have that tax break.

Senator Anderson notes that Michigan does have a high number of homeless veterans, and he wonders if maybe some of them could have kept their homes if it had not been for the property tax burden.
