KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo voters went to the polls on Tuesday and easily passed a county wide millage question for Transportation, 11,747 yes to 4,499 no.and a 62-million dollar bond issue for school improvement and maintenance projects in the Kalamazoo Public School District. It was approved by better than two to one...5044 to 2219.
The transportation millage, when combined with a city of Kalamazoo millage approved last November, will provide local funding for the next four years. The system also relies on fare revenues and state transportation dollars to keep the Metro Transit System and the Direct Connect door to door service operating. .
The school bond issue will provide funding for maintenance of school buildings, updating computer technology in classrooms, purchasing and maintaining school buses, adding a second gym at Kalamazoo Central, and a new bus garage. It will also replace a wing on a middle school and fund rennovations district wide.
Routine operating millage questions were also approved in the Vicksburg and Mattawan school districts.
