KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- For the past two years, Bobbie Smith from Kalamazoo has had a goal of making a positive change in her health. “It started out where I only had 30 minutes three times a week to do any physical activity,” Bobbie said, “running just seemed to be the best option.” From there her participation in the Kalamazoo running community has skyrocketed.
Since her journey began two years ago Smith has finished multiple 5K’s, a sprint triathlon, and is now signed up to run her very first half-marathon this Sunday at the Borgess Kalamazoo Marathon event.
Smith admits that she was never a runner saying, “If you would have asked me to run with you I would have laughed.” Now the mother of two has changed her tune joining running groups such as Girls on the Run to actively participate in the Kalamazoo running community. “You’re welcomed with open arms into the running community here,” Smith added, “As long as you’re out there trying there are people here that will support you.”
Smith offered to have her story available to the public because she believes she can serve as a testament to others out there who may need a nudge of encouragement on starting their own journey to health.
WKZO will be providing a live video stream on race day, check it out at our marathon page ‘Everything Kalamazoo Marathon’. You can also receive updates to your phone by texting MARATHON to 80373. Remember that standard message and data rates apply.
