Anaheim, CA (1660 The Fan) - Teemu Selanne’s go ahead power play goal 1:29 into the third period was the game winner as the Ducks are up one game to none after defeating the Red Wings 3-1 on Tuesday night.
The Ducks made the Red Wings pay for their penalties, scoring two goals with the made advantage and one empty netter.
Half way through the first, Jordin Tootoo was sent to the penalty box for cross-checking, and Nick Bonino put Anaheim ahead 1-0 just four seconds into their first power play.
Daniel Clearly tallied a power play goal of his own a few minutes later after the Wings failed to score during a 5 on 3 adavantage, but Cleary was able to find the back of the net two seconds after the first Duck’s penalty expired. Cleary’s goal was assisted by Jakub Kindl and Patrick Eaves.
Jimmy Howard made 24 saves on 26 shots and was pulled for an extra skater with about 90 seconds left. Francois Beauchemin recorded the empty netter with 27 seconds remaining.
Wings had 22 shots with 11 in the third period.
