PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- An out of state man is dead after he was seen burning along northbound U.S. 131 near the Post Drive Exit in Plainfield Township.

Kent County Deputies say a passerby noticed something burning about 3:45 Saturday afternoon, stopped, realized it was a man and began throwing dirt on him to put out the flames.

He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with 3rd degree burns over his entire body. He later died.

The man’s rented car was found nearby. Investigators say its unclear how he caught fire but that they do not suspect foul play.

They are trying to track down his relatives and notify them before releasing his name.
