DETROIT (WKZO) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is getting medical attention for an old knee injury that has reportedly been causing him pain. The issue led to a second request by his attorney for bond to be set for Kilpatrick's release from the federal prison in Milan, but U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds refused.
Kilpatrick has been convicted on multiple counts of corruption and conspiracy and is waiting to be sentenced.
The "Detroit News" reports a motion for bond came up a third time Thursday when attorney James Thomas met with the judge and prosecutors. Thomas expressed concern for Kilpatrick's safety due to the injury but Edmunds would not make any further decisions until she receives a report from an orthopedist who was scheduled to examine Kilpatrick.
