WORCESTER, MA (WKZO) – Following four successful seasons with Western Michigan University, Bronco forward Dane Walters has signed an amateur try out agreement with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.
Walters appeared in 144 games for the Broncos, scoring 39 goals and 44 assists for a career point total of 83 points. His junior campaign was his best, leading the Brown and Gold with 16 goals and 29 points, finishing with a +15 plus/minus for the year. Walters scored one of the three goals in the CCHA championship game helping the Broncos defeat Michigan 3-2 for the 2012 conference title.
One of three captains on this year’s team, Walters finished his senior season tied for the team lead in points with 25 including a team-high 12 goals. He is the second player in program history to earn the CCHA’s Best Defensive Forward Award. The last Bronco to do so was current assistant Pat Ferschweiler in 1994.
Dane joins former Bronco Matt Tennyson who signed with the San Jose Sharks after last season. Tennyson tallied 27 points in 60 games for Worcester.
