Funding increases for Comstock scholarship funds

COMSTOCK (WKZO) -- There could be more money on the way for college-bound high school graduates in Comstock.

Earlier this month, the Comstock Public Schools Foundation voted to accept a gift from Comstock residents Jim and Lois Richmond to set up an endowed scholarship fund with a gift of over one-million dollars.  Those scholarships will begin with the Class of 2014, but the Richmonds are now putting up 20-thousand dollars to provide inaugural scholarships of at least one-thousand dollars to students of the Class of 2013 who have a GPA of 2.75 or higher, have shown leadership in school and community activities, and who will be attending Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College or Kalamazoo Valley Community College this fall.

The Richmonds also say they will match community donations dollar-for-dollar up to an additional one-million dollars with an ultimate goal of a three-million dollar endowment for future Comstock graduates.
