UNION TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- UNION TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- Deputies in Branch County have taken a suspect into custody for a hit and run crash near Union City.
Deputies say a black Dodge Pick-up crossed the centerline on Girard Road near Olds Road in Union Township and slammed head-on into a Ford Taurus just before 5 a.m. Sunday morning, totaling both vehicles.
The driver of the pick-up was no where to be found as emergency crews arrived. A K-9 was deployed to track the driver but he could not be located. He turned himself into the police overnight.
The driver of the car, 38-year-old Scott Shelts of Union City was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with a head injury, but he is listed in good condition.
Shelts had to be pried out of the wreckage, but he was wearing his seat belt and his airbag deployed, preventing serious injuries.
