KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo City Utility crews have been working thru the weekend to repair a water main break at the corner of Kilgore and Lovers Lane, near Loy Norrix High School and Milham Park.
The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department says there was a pressure reduction in the system because of the break and they are issuing a boil water permit for the Trestlewood Office Complex just to the south of the break, and Loy Norrix High School, as a precaution. It will remain in effect until tests on water quality will be conducted, and the water is determined to be safe. They are recommending bottled water in the interim.
The water main break was first discovered Saturday morning when a hole opened at the intersection. Fortunately cars were able to avoid it.
The intersection has been closed ever since, and the crew leader at the scene says while they have been able to repair the pipe, they still need to repair the road way and they may not be able to reopen the intersection until sometime Monday. They say it takes time for cement to harden and cure.
