Two dogs rescued from icy lake in Van Buren County

DECATUR (WKZO) -- It may be cold out there but going out on area lakes could be dangerous given the fluctuation in temperatures lately. Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies are looking for the owners of two dogs that had to be rescued from the ice near the Lake of the Woods Public Access site in Decatur around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The dogs were found about fifty-feet off-shore, standing on the frozen lake.  A firefighter with the Decatur Hamilton Fire Department was launched in an ice rescue device onto the lake and was able to rescue both dogs safely and the animals were taken to Van Buren County Animal Control in Hartford.

Both dogs appear to be healthy and do not appear to have been out on the ice for very long.
