KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo Public Safety officer was on patrol in the 3700-block of East Cork around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday when he made an unusual discovery.
A suspicious person was sitting in a parked vehicle behind a hotel, and when the officer spoke with the subject, the man told police he had hit a deer and figured they would want to see it. The vehicle owner claimed the deer in the trunk was dead and he intended to use the road kill to feed his family.
Police asked to see if the deer was properly tagged and the man agreed. When the trunk opened, the deer was not only alive, but it scrambled to jump out of the trunk, hitting the pavement briefly before scampering off into a nearby wooded area not to be seen again.
In a news release, the man was said to be "at a loss for words" following the incident.
