BARRY COUNTY (WKZO) -- A Barry County man who must have developed an enemy along the way was identified not only as a drug abuser, but someone who wanted to shoot up an elementary school.
Two Barry County schools were locked down yesterday morning and others from Barry to Allegan to Kalamazoo County were put on alert after police received a call from an anonymous tipster that a man was high on drugs and threatening to kill innocent children.
Sheriff Dar Leaf says they immediately advised the two nearest schools to go into lockdown mode and confronted the 50-year-old man. They determined that the threat may have been overstated, but they did find a meth lab in the ex-con’s home and long guns and pistols.
He was arrested for violating parole and will likely face charges for manufacturing meth and being a felon in possession of guns. Police are still trying to identify the tipster.
Child Protective Services removed a 3-year old child from the home. The suspect is expected to be formally charged this weekend.
